Things to do in Discoveryland - Attractions, Walkthroughs and Meet and Greets

If you are wanting to be a part of an intergalactic adventure then Discoveryland is the place for you! This land is filled with a range of activities that are out of this world and budding space adventure goers will love this land! From defeating the evil Emperor Zurg with Buzz Lightyear to jumping into hyperspace on a Starspeeder 1000, this land is sure to delight fans of all ages.

How to get to Discoveryland

If you are trying to get to Discoveryland from the end of Main Street U.S.A., head to the circular parade route and take a right. If you are heading there from Fantasyland, take a left and look for the giant sign. The Discoveryland sign cannot be missed as it is huge and also a fantastic photo opportunity! There is only one set path into and out of Discoveryland and I do think that this can sometimes immerse you even more in this land!

Attractions

  • Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast – Any height – Family adventure - Photopass available – This attraction is absolutely fantastic and fully interactive! Using a laser blaster, you work with Buzz Lightyear to defeat the evil Emperor Zurg and earn points by blasting different shaped objects – This is a fantastic attraction to go on with family members and challenge each other to see who can get the most points!
  • Orbitron® - Any height – Family adventure – Blast around in your own spaceship and you decide if you want to fly high or fly low! – This attraction looks wonderful in the dark as the lights in the area really light it up and make it feel like you may actually be in space!
  • Autopia® - Must be 81cm to ride – Fun for little ones – ‘Drive’ your very own car around the track and explore the scenery while going up, down and all around a set route – The theming on this ride is wonderful and you feel like you are on a real journey as you are travelling around the track!
  • Star Tours: The Adventure Continues - Must be 1.02m to ride - Big thrills - This is a fantastic, interactive ride where you feel like you really are on a Starspeeder 1000! There are multiple different 'storylines' that you can get when you board this ride and the jump to hyperspace feels very real!
  • Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain - Must be 1.20m to ride - Big thrills - Photopass available - This ride used to be known as Space Mountain and was re-themed to Star Wars - This is most definitely a big thrills ride and you feel like you are being propelled into hyperspace and part of a space battle!

Other Attractions

  • Les Mystères du Nautilus – Any height – Family adventure – A walkthrough attraction that is wonderfully themed and immersive – Explore the Nautilus to see if you can discover a hidden surprise! – Please note that this attraction is currently closed.
  • Mickey’s PhilharMagic – Any height – Family adventure – This is an incredible 4D experience where the magic of Disney animation is explored in a fun and interactive way!
  • Disneyland Railroad Discoveryland Station – Any height – Fun for little ones – This is one of the train stations that the Disneyland Railroad visits – It is currently closed but it is a wonderful experience to encounter the Disneyland Park from a different viewpoint!

Meet and Greets

  • There is a specific meet and greet point in Discoveryland but there has been sightings of The Mandalorian and Grogu earlier in the year and I am hopeful that they may return at some point!
  • Welcome to Starport: A Star Wars Encounter - A meet and greet with Darth Vader himself! - This is a very specific meet and greet and the queue can be very long or close off before times indicated on the app due to waiting times. - There may sometimes be other Star Wars characters here too but it has only been Darth Vader when we have been there.
  • Use the app to see which characters it says will be in the park on the day that you visit. If you use the ‘Characters’ filter option on the map it will show you where there are currently characters at meet and greet locations.

Anything Else?

  • There are a number of restaurants and shops to visit in Discoveryland (explored in a later post).
  • Photopass is worth having in this land as you can get your images from Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast, Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain and Welcome to Starport: A Star Wars Encounter. If you were to purchase images separately for this land alone if you did the 3 attractions you may already match the price of Photopass for your whole trip!

Top Tips:

- Keep an eye on the times for the rides in this land as there can be times of day where the queue times are incredibly low for different reasons and it is worth joining the queue lines when the waiting times are that low!

- There are different meet and greet points where characters may ‘randomly’ appear at different times of day so keep on the lookout for signs or for the characters themselves!

- Make use of the Disneyland Paris app or map.
